David Lawrie, organist and master of choirs, led the choir of Saint David's Episcopal Church, Baltimore in the premiere of my new setting of O scarum convivium at the 11:00 a.m. mass on Sunday, November 25, 2013.


Pentecost performed in California

Gioia Books

The Los Cancioneros Master Chorale presented my setting of Dana Gioia's Pentecost for SATB chorus and piano. The program took place at 7:00 p.m. in the Armstrong Theater in Torrance, CA. Dr. Joanna Nachef conducted the program in an evening of song and Shakespeare. Gioia's Pentecost appears in Interrogations at Noon published by Graywolf Press.

Time and Memory: suite for voice and piano on poems of William S. Trout premiered

Tenor John Williams and pianist Hsaio Ying Lin gave the premiere of my new suite for voice and piano, Time and Memory. The work is a seeting of seven texts by poet William S. Trout. Designed as a suite for voice and piano, the work features five vocal pieces plus two solo piano movements that serve as reflections on excerpts from Trout's poetry. The world premier performance took place Friday evening, July 27, 2012 in The Ware Center at Millersville University, Lancaster, PA. The Baltimore premiere followed on Sunday, July 29 at 1:00 p.m. at The First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. Presentation of O salutaris hostia

On Sunday, July 1, 2012, I will present my setting of O salutaris hostia at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services at Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Baltimore. Organist Douglas Buchanan will accompany.


Premiere of No Balm in Gilead

Poe

My new chamber opera, No Balm in Gilead was premiered by the Peabody Conservatory Opera Department. In his exquisite libretto, Daniel Hartis creates a fantastical account of the final night of Edgar Allen Poe's life. The premiere took place at 6:30 p.m. in Friedberg Hall on the Peabody Conservatory campus in Baltimore. Performances by Juliana Burdick, Eric Carey, MacKenzie Florence and Leslie Proctor.


Performance of Sonata for Solo Violin

Violinist Courtney Orlando of Alarm Will Sound presented my Sonata for Solo Violin alongside works by Caleb Burhans, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Astor Piazzolla. May 4 and 6 at the Mount Vernon Music Space in Baltimore. This recital was put on as a fundraiser for Mount Vernon Music Space.


East Coast premiere of Pentecost

The Syracuse University Singers gave the east coast premiere of of my setting of Dana Gioia's Pentecost. This performance took place as a result of Pentecost being named the winner of The Gregg Smith Choral Composition Contest. The program took place at 8:00 p.m. Syracuse University's Setnor Auditorium and was conducted by John Warren. Read more HERE.

Propulsion read by the Peabody Symphony Orchestra

Conductor Lee Mills led the Peabody Symphony Orchestra in a reading of my Propulsion for orchestra.


Presentation of Timor et tremor

Washington National Cathedral

On Sunday, February 26, 2012 Timor et tremor was presented at the 11:15 a.m. mass by the Washington National Cathedral Choir, led by Michael McCarthy, Director of Music. The service can be viewed HERE. Timor et tremor was presented as the Offertory anthem beginning at 52:30 in the video.


Premiere of I Am Not An Incorporeal Demon

I Am Not An Incorporeal Demon, a duo for flute and marimba premiered March 15, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in Cohen-Davison Theater on the Peabody Conservatory campus. The program was a unique collaboration between Peabody's Composition Department and the flute studio of renowned flutist Marina Piccinini.

On March 11, 2012, The Pacific Chorale's John Alexander Singers gave the world premiere performance of my setting of Dana Gioia's Pentecost during their "American Voices" concert in Meng Hall at California State University, Fullerton. Pentecost was presented as the co-winner of the Pacific Chorale's Young Composers Competition.
